Future of the Sydney pre-SLUG meetups

As of the end of May Mary Gardiner will not be organising the Chix pre-SLUG meetups. The last one she will organise will be Friday May 30.

If someone else wants to take over, please read below, and email the AussieChix list.

Some quick information:

What are they? Aussie(Linux|Dev)Chix meet in Sydney for a drink and bite to eat before the Sydney Linux Users Group meetings (last Friday of the month). We meet at 17:30 and head to SLUG at about 18:20. We meet at Lindt in Darling Harbour.

What is the rationale for them? To meet each other, and to give women going to SLUG, particularly newcomers, someone to go with.

What would organising them involve? Emailing the time and place to the mailing lists and updating the Chix website at least a week in advance of the meetup. Committing to actually attending the meetup, on time, whatever you decide the time is (it's fairly poorly attended at the moment, so we need someone to commit to being there to meet newcomers).

Why are they at such an inconvienient time? Because SLUG is from 6:30 to 9:00 and has thus laid claim to the convienient time. (We don't hold them after SLUG because SLUG has a group dinner after.)

If this doesn't happen, will we ever see each other again? If you're coming to the AussieChix movie nights or the Geek Girl Dinners, yes. And informal or different group meetups (eg a general newcomer meetup, Melissa Draper's idea) before SLUG might happen.
