LCA2010 diversity programme: applications close THIS FRIDAY

Google is funding a diversity programme for LCA2010 (Wellington NZ, January), including women. Selected applicants will receive up to NZD1000 towards attendance at the conference.

Applications close THIS FRIDAY 2 October.

National Computer Science School applications opening

Applications for the National Computer Science School (NCSS) are now open. NCSS is a live-in school for Australian Year 11 and 12 students at which they learn programming and website development. They put some effort into attracting applications from both girls and from students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

It will be held from Saturday 2 January to Monday 11 January, 2010 (inclusive).

Google Diversity Programme for LCA2010

Google is sponsoring a Diversity Programme for LCA2010 in which Open Source contributors who are members of a minority group, including women, can apply to receive up to NZD1000 towards attendance at LCA2010 in January in New Zealand.

LCA2010 Haecksen miniconf submissions now open

The Haecksen miniconf at linux.conf.au 2010 will highlight women who are working and playing with all sorts of technology in Australasia and the Pacific: smart crafters, OLPC volunteers and, of course, many FLOSS contributors.

The miniconf will be held during LCA2010 in Wellington, New Zealand, in January 2010.

Submissions to the miniconf are now open and close October 18 2009.

Thirteen other miniconfs will also run during LCA2010, and their calls for papers are also running.

OSDC programme announced

The Open Source Developers Conference (Brisbane, 25–27 November 2009) has announced their programme.

Women speakers are:

  • "Cultivating Codeless Contributors" by Melissa Draper
  • "Remote Controlled Volunteers" by Karen Pauley
  • "Just Get the Job Done! Serving the Community One Argument at a Time" by Jacinta Richardson

Registration for the conference is now open.

Haecksen and Linuxchix miniconf confirmed for linux.conf.au 2010

New Zealand LinuxChix member Joh Clarke's proposal for a Haecksen and Linuxchix miniconf at linux.conf.au 2010 (January 2010, Wellington, NZ) was announced as one of the chosen miniconfs.
